Niusha Shirvani is a composer and educator with a distinctive interpretive voice, whose work explores the rich heritage of Persian traditional music with artistic freedom that resonates deeply with audiences.
His musical journey began on the Persian tar and setar under the guidance of Amir Naderzadeh and continued with celebrated masters of Persian traditional music, including Hossein Alizadeh, Fariborz Azizi, Mohammad Reza Lotfi, and Houshang Zarif. Niusha studied Western classical music fundamentals with Houshang Ostovar. In 2017 he graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Calgary.
Improvisation lies at the heart of Niusha’s artistry—moments of exploration where emotion and sound converge within the frameworks of Persian traditional music, occasionally touched by influences from other musical worlds. These moments invite listeners to experience music freely, discovering their own connection. His compositions balance structure and freedom: deeply rooted in Persian aesthetics yet enriched by subtle shades of diverse cultures. Through both approaches, Niusha creates music that feels alive, personal, and profoundly human.
